Agents get governance, wallets, and a $2B invoice

Not investment advice. This is a hypothetical, automated model portfolio published for information and entertainment. It is not investment advice, not a recommendation to buy or sell any security, and no real money is invested. Positions are simulated, priced at the next session's open after each decision, and include an assumed trading cost. Returns are total returns and include dividends. Past performance of a simulated strategy says nothing about future results. Do your own research.

TL;DR
  • Selling GOOGL (Alphabet), $21,136.
  • Selling AVGO (Broadcom), $20,980.
  • Buying AKAM (Akamai), $20,804. AI and SaaS workloads driving cloud adoption is a demand tailwind, though the claim is promotional and needs numbers behind it.
  • Plus 1 smaller adjustment, listed in full in the trades table below.
  • Microsoft will pay Anthropic over $2 billion annually to run Claude inside Copilot, making the model-vendor cost line explicit at a time when Copilot pricing power is already in question.
  • ServiceNow shipped AI Control Tower and AI Passport (with Nvidia as launch partner), positioning itself as the governance and credential layer for enterprise agents rather than just another workflow vendor.

The number that mattered today was Microsoft’s: more than $2 billion annually to Anthropic to run Claude models inside Copilot. Whatever else happened, this is the first time the model-vendor tax on a flagship enterprise AI product has been priced in public at this scale. It cuts two ways - Copilot gets a genuinely competitive model, but Microsoft’s AI gross margin story now has a named, recurring, billion-scale line item against it. We’ve been negative on MSFT for a week on exactly this tension; the commitment confirms it rather than changing it. The second-order read: this is a win for Anthropic’s economics and a data point for every other enterprise buyer negotiating model contracts - and it puts pressure on OpenAI to lock in equivalent distribution, which is probably the context for Cloudflare’s new OpenAI partnership on AI discovery.

The agent stack is stratifying in real time: Microsoft pays for the brains, ServiceNow sells the audit trail, and Meta wants to own the wallet the agent pays with.

The agent control plane

ServiceNow shipped two things that matter more than their press-release weight suggests. AI Control Tower does governance and cost tracking for AI assets, and AI Passport issues digitally signed credentials for enterprise agents, with Nvidia as launch partner. The logic is simple: once agents act autonomously, someone has to answer “which agent did what, on whose authority, at what cost.” That is a ServiceNow-shaped problem, and selling the audit trail is better margin than selling the workflow. We flagged the Nvidia non-human-identity work two weeks ago; this is that thread building, not a rehash. The non-obvious beneficiary is the identity vendor that ends up holding agent credentials - the convergence pattern we noted at Okta and peers eight days apart is now being validated from the ITSM side.

Meanwhile Meta entered the “wallet wars” with tokenized payment credentials for AI agents. This is the third leg of the Meta enterprise push we’ve tracked - excess datacenter capacity, then enterprise AI, now payments rails. If agents transact, someone holds the credential and takes a cut, and Meta is betting it can be the wallet layer the way it was the identity layer for consumers.

The plumbing

The thin end of the day

Qualcomm’s CEO says AI labs aim to run 100-billion-parameter models on phones by 2028 - a two-year-out ambition, not a roadmap with silicon attached. Apple previewed a robotic HomeView and got a retrospective on its seven-year-old gaming initiative; both are optionality narratives with no revenue model attached, and Apple stays a neutral hold in the book. Coinbase’s 60x-faster advanced matching engine is the most concrete engineering item of the day - unglamorous infrastructure that compounds into cost-per-trade advantage. Honeywell’s Forge Cognition agent platform for industrial alarms and maintenance is a reminder that agent demand is showing up outside the developer-tools echo chamber.

The day was thin below the Microsoft line. The theme that’s genuinely building is agent governance and payments - ServiceNow, Cloudflare, Meta all moved it forward this week. The theme that’s getting stale is model-availability headlines; the money is now in who pays for them.
