- Valon raised $150 million at a $2.3 billion valuation after adding $200 million in ARR in six months, with one in six US mortgages now running on ValonOS.
- CFTC proposed Regulation CTX and Regulation CAM to assert federal authority over any crypto exchange offering leverage, margin, or financed retail trading.
- Modern Treasury filed an OCC charter application to establish a national trust bank that settles fiat rails and custodies stablecoins through a single API.
- Machine-to-machine HTTP 402 payments scaled to 75 million transactions worth $24.2 million, averaging $0.32 per autonomous call.
- Stuut raised $52.5 million in Series B funding led by Insight Partners to deploy autonomous cash-reconciliation and collection agents across enterprise ERPs.
Valon just closed a $150 million Series D at a $2.3 billion valuation, led by Ribbit Capital with backing from Andreessen Horowitz. The capital comes after a rapid six-month run: the company opened its core ValonOS platform to third-party mortgage servicers and locked in more than $200 million in ARR, putting one out of every six US residential mortgages on its infrastructure.
The core story across fintech right now is the eviction of human-in-the-loop bottlenecks from core ledgers. Servicing, retail credit evaluations, corporate treasury pipelines, and internet checkouts are being rebuilt directly for programmatic execution. When transaction counterparties are agents querying databases rather than users clicking checkout buttons, every interface - from the database layer to the bank charter - must change.
The HTTP 402 protocol has already logged 75 million transactions totaling $24.2 million, with payments averaging just $0.32 per request.
Valon automates servicing ledgers at scale
Mortgage servicing is notoriously brittle, reliant on decades-old mainframes and batch-reconciled escrow systems that struggle with dynamic homeowner requests. Valon built ValonOS as an integrated system of record, replacing legacy core platforms like Black Knight with an event-driven system.
Alongside the funding, Valon is expanding its internal “Ditto” autonomous agent. Ditto works directly against the core ledger rather than through an external screen-scraping layer. It handles complex, compliance-heavy state transitions: reallocating principal and interest payments, conducting escrow analyses, and resolving homeowner disputes. By packaging this engine for third-party loan servicers, Valon converted its internal servicing stack into pure enterprise infrastructure.
Plaid shifts underwriting from credit scores to real-time cash flows
Plaid unveiled new credit, fraud, and payment risk models aimed at thin-file borrowers who get rejected by traditional FICO scoring. Instead of relying strictly on bureau data, which updates on 30-day billing cycles, the new models run machine learning heuristics over historical open-banking telemetry.
The models parse income continuity, real-time outflow patterns, and recurring obligation schedules directly from bank account logs. For risk engineers, this changes automated loan-origination logic: instead of setting a crude static threshold based on bureau scores, platforms can plug Plaid’s cash-flow scoring into their underwriting pipelines to spot immediate liquidity changes and account-takeover fraud prior to ACH disbursement.
The CFTC targets margin and custody architectures
The CFTC unveiled an advance notice of proposed rulemaking introducing Regulation CTX and Regulation CAM, designed to bring cryptocurrency exchanges under federal authority. With the statutory Clarity Act stuck in Congress, the agency is relying on a 2010 Dodd-Frank provision: any retail commodity transaction involving margin, financing, or leverage must happen on a registered CFTC exchange.
Crucially, the rule looks past marketing labels to assess asset delivery mechanics. If a retail trader buys an asset and the exchange holds the keys internally without immediate delivery to private user-controlled custody within 28 days, regulators can deem that transaction financed. Exchanges that skip leverage entirely can remain under state money-transmitter licensing, but anyone offering margin, synthetic exposure, or pooled omnibus custody will need to design systems for verifiable proof-of-reserves, formal broker-dealer AML controls, and compliant token listings.
John Collison and Henri Stern prepare Stripe for agent checkouts
Stripe is fundamentally re-architecting its checkout rails for autonomous software. On a recent podcast, John Collison explained that the standard web checkout - optimized for human eyeballs, forms, and two-factor SMS prompts - breaks down when software agents make purchases. Stripe’s roadmap relies heavily on recent acquisitions, including Bridge (stablecoin orchestration), Privy (embedded key management), Metronome (usage-based metering), and OpenRouter (model routing).
To run point, Privy CEO Henri Stern is taking over Stripe’s global crypto and stablecoin strategy. Stern’s objective is to build modular primitives uniting fiat banking rails, debit issuing, and on-chain settlement into standard Stripe SDKs. If autonomous agents handle procurement, developers need a native, low-latency settlement asset without the clearing windows or chargeback overhead of legacy card rails.
Micro-metering and the HTTP 402 reality check
The machine-to-machine checkout layer is already generating real traffic. The x402 payment standard has processed roughly 75 million transactions totaling $24.2 million, averaging just $0.32 per event. Cloudflare entered the fray with a closed beta of its Monetization Gateway, giving API providers a native way to bill autonomous crawlers at the edge per request rather than maintaining subscription auth walls.
Engineering teams, however, remain nervous about unbounded execution loops. An industry review of the Agent Payment Risk Index 2026 examined whether autonomous agents are regularly draining balances or paying bad actors. The current production record shows that documented catastrophic enterprise losses remain scarce. The immediate operational failure mode is not rogue payments - it is brittle integration layers that drop settlement state midway through a process.
Modern Treasury files for an OCC trust bank charter
Modern Treasury has applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to form Modern Treasury National Trust Bank. The entity will operate as a limited-purpose trust institution providing federally supervised digital asset custody and fiat settlement under one umbrella. The bank will not issue loans or mint stablecoins.
For system architects, this bridges a wide infrastructure gap. Right now, integrating fiat rails (ACH, FedNow, RTP) and stablecoins requires running distinct ledgers, disjointed regulatory compliance frameworks, and separate custody partners. Modern Treasury’s charter will allow users to orchestrate bank payments and stablecoin balances through a single, unified API, moving compliance guarantees into the clearing layer.
Autonomous collections and cross-border settlement
Further down the stack, accounts-receivable platform Stuut raised a $52.5 million Series B led by Insight Partners, with participation from a16z and Microsoft’s M12, pushing its total capital to $93 million. Stuut hooks into ERPs, bank feeds, and billing software to automate B2B receivables. Instead of merely alerting finance teams, its agents parse invoice disputes, initiate collection outreach, and reconcile payments across general ledgers.
At the same time, regional payment rails continue to consolidate. In Southeast Asia, Pine Labs rolled out a unified merchant platform in Singapore, bundling instore terminal acquiring, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) schemes, and loyalty systems into a single SDK. Meanwhile, institutional pressure on multi-day correspondent banking delays is pushing global institutions toward programmable rails. A consortium of US banks behind Zelle is now preparing a dedicated stablecoin pipeline targeted directly at high-volume remittance corridors like US-to-India. Across the board, legacy settlement delays are steadily being engineered away.
