Decision APIs Everywhere, and a $35 Billion Compute Check

Not investment advice. This is a hypothetical, automated model portfolio published for information and entertainment. It is not investment advice, not a recommendation to buy or sell any security, and no real money is invested. Positions are simulated, priced at the next session's open after each decision, and include an assumed trading cost. Returns are total returns and include dividends. Past performance of a simulated strategy says nothing about future results. Do your own research.

TL;DR
  • Buying MU (Micron), $29,183. A thirty-five-billion-dollar compute commitment from a GPU cloud newcomer extends the datacenter memory squeeze we flagged, and supply stays tight through 2028.
  • Selling AMZN (Amazon), $28,618.
  • Selling QCOM (Qualcomm), $28,122.
  • Plus 4 smaller adjustments, listed in full in the trades table below.
  • The decision-model primitive is commoditizing in public: OpenAI's gpt-6-luna Decisions API ($0.10 per 1M input tokens, 1.6s median latency), Amazon's Strands Decider 2B, and Cloudflare's Clef all shipped into the same category, and Cloudflare's position at the edge is the structurally strongest of the three.
  • Lambda is raising up to $4bn at a $14.5bn valuation anchored by a $35bn compute deal, which extends the neocloud financing wave that keeps memory supply squeezed through 2028 and deepens demand for custom silicon and interconnect.

The day’s real signal is that the model layer is commoditizing in plain sight while the compute layer keeps raising money. Three decision-model APIs shipped into the same category within a week, Ramp’s Economics Lab reports 8% of firms switched model providers in a single month, Bloomberg Intelligence has DeepSeek V4.1 Flash leading agentic coding benchmarks - and in the same news cycle a GPU cloud raised up to $4bn at a $14.5bn valuation around a $35bn compute commitment. The frontier lab is turning into a procurement line item, and the value is migrating to whoever owns distribution and routing.

When the same primitive ships from three platforms in a week, it stops being a product and becomes a routing toll - and the toll collector at the edge is the one that gets paid.

The decision-API land grab

OpenAI’s Decisions API entered public beta on gpt-6-luna at $0.10 per 1M input tokens with 1.6s median latency. Amazon shipped Strands Decider 2B. Cloudflare shipped Clef. When the same primitive arrives from three platforms in one week, it stops being a product and becomes a feature - and the interesting question is who owns the routing point. Clef sits at the edge where the requests already are, which is a structurally better position than a standalone API endpoint that has to be integrated into an application. That is the piece of Cloudflare Birthday Week worth weighting: the week itself is now third-pass coverage in our archive, but Clef is the new bit and the one that matters. The same “we run the plumbing” story shows up in the smaller item that Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 automatically handles the Oct 11 KSK-2024 root zone rollover - unglamorous operational competence that reinforces the platform pitch.

Lambda and the treadmill

The Lambda raise - up to $4bn at $14.5bn, anchored by a $35bn compute deal with a frontier lab - is the capital event of the day. Second-order: the neocloud financing wave is now the demand floor for GPUs, HBM, and custom silicon. Every new compute pool is a multi-year memory customer, which is why Micron’s warning that supply stays squeezed through 2028 keeps compounding rather than fading. Marvell sits in the same current; hyperscaler ASIC programs and interconnect demand grow with every pool that gets funded, and the margins there are better than the merchant GPU business. NVIDIA’s AICR v1.0, standardizing GPU-on-Kubernetes deployments, is a genuine moat move up the stack - but this is the fourth multibillion-dollar compute headline this quarter, and it is priced.

Model churn is real

Ramp’s 8% September switching figure is the number to remember. Add DeepSeek V4.1 Flash leading agentic coding benchmarks and Mistral Large 4 (1T total parameters, 49B active, open-weight), and the picture is a model layer where the switching cost keeps falling. The beneficiaries are the integration layers. Claude entering Google Workspace public beta means Workspace monetizes the seat regardless of which model serves it, and Uber building an AI-native software factory on Claude Code and Codex shows enterprises running multi-model by design rather than by accident. Meanwhile Meta and Sierra’s Personal Agent Protocol - with Stripe, Shopify, and Walmart - is the checkout layer for agents forming as an open standard, which is the same thesis one layer down: own the rails, not the model. Google shipped everywhere else too - GKE Agent Substrate with scale-to-zero for AI workloads, Nano Banana 2.1 via the Gemini API, EmbeddingGemma 2 at 740M for on-device, JPEG XL decoding in Chrome 155, Markdown editing in Docs. None of these individually moves a company at that revenue base; the pattern across all of them does.

Security: the build pipeline is the attack surface

Mandiant’s warning on CI/CD supply-chain attacks targeting GitHub Actions and OIDC tokens lands directly on Microsoft’s GitHub, and it is the kind of disclosure that shows up in enterprise procurement conversations months later, not in next quarter’s numbers. Atlassian’s critical file-access vulnerability in Data Center products continues a familiar pattern - real patching tax for customers, but largely discounted by the market at this point. Elastic highlighting AI-agent swarm attacks on banking is partly marketing its own detection stack, but the underlying threat model, agents attacking agents, is appearing in more places. Project Zero’s writeup on emergency patching architectures is the useful background reading for all of it.

Apple's accessory quarter

A doorbell, lock, and thermostat developed with LG is rounding-error revenue for Apple, and it does not change the neutral stance we have held for weeks. The more interesting Apple datapoint is RevenueCat’s analysis of 22M retention-messaging events showing a 17% median save rate - evidence that App Store retention mechanics work as designed, which matters to the ecosystem argument far more than a thermostat does.

The honest note

Much of today was continuing coverage: Birthday Week on its third pass, the DNS rollover reiterated, the model-competition drumbeat another beat in a weeks-long rhythm. The genuinely new facts were Clef, the Lambda terms, the Ramp churn data, and the Atlassian disclosure. On a thin day, the churn number is the one that should move how you think about every model-layer name on the board.
